ANOTHER YEAR OLDER :(

April 28, 2008

My wrap up post about my birthday. For all of you facebookless/myspaceless (or people who never realized that the 422 behind xanga.com/tomngo422 is actually the date of my birthday) it was my birthday this past tuesday (422). Now let me breakdown my birthday situation. I’ve never really been a big birthday person, just because I can’t remember the last time I had a birthday party. Like i seriously don’t think I’ve ever had one (Yes, even as a child….wait actually was there one?) There was one year that actually nobody remembered my birthday, I didn’t get a happy birthday till probably like the day after (this was my 18th birthday by the way.) So how was this years birthday?

Definitely the best birthday hands down.

So on tuesday, my kind brother lent me his car and i went to pick up Shannon. I decided that I wanted to pay a visit to Disney because I missed it. So drove to westwood and picked her up and she had a gift for me! For the past month she’s been hassling me about what gift she should get me (especially since my phone is broken and i lost my digicam she got me 3 christmas ago). I pretty much told her that I wanted something that SHE MADE and that wasn’t SUPER expensive, cuz im hood like that.

So she made these!

if you don’t know I’m a huge mickey mouse fan. ahahhaa

that says “THE HAPPIEST BIRThDAYS ON EARTH”

for all of you non-disneyers thats SPLASH MOUNTAIN. Although I’ve went 291083092 times to disney. I rarely ride this ride, cuz the lines are ALWAYS long. We got fast passes, and it was fast.

this is us on SPACE MOUNTAIN! as you can seee my hand is missing and I JUST REALIZED IT thats why i’m pointing at it. Shannons just scared of my freaky missing left hand.

this is strangely one of my favorite rides. I don’ t know why (It was not opened by the way)

DAT BABY DON’T LOOK LIKE ME!

after all the rides, we went to eat at the RESTAURANT me and SHANNON have been waiting for ages to eat at. THE BLUE BAYOU. Whenever we try to eat there, they never let us cuz we don’t have reservations! :( This time she made reservations for 730. and dude I was super excited. (The Blue Bayou is this really bougie restaurant that is located INSIDE of the PIRATES of CARIBBEAN Ride. Yup, when you are on the ride, you actually seeee people eating. Its really friggin cool!

this was our delicious MEAL! from top to bottom. We had the TASTIEST GUMBO soup ever. I ordered some super special crab legs that was fuckin delicious…and shannon had the short ribs, that was bombaY! For dessert they gave me this cakish looking thing, that we did not finish.

Oh but the place was awesome. Heres a picture of the inside

It pretty much looked like we were in the backyard of some louisana manor. Reminded me of Leo Dicaprios wedding in Catch me if you can.

After that Shannon and I left Disney (Thanks FELIX for the hook up!) and we went to catch “FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL” This movie was awesome. Overall BEST BIRTHDAY EVER! :)

To be honest, just having this day could have been perfect, but

Friday my pledgebros picked me up and took me out to eat at one of the best KOREAN BBQ places i’ve ever eaten at (I’ve eaten at a good amount of places). I was pretty much intoxicated from the very first minute i got picked up so that could also play a factor in me calling this the best korean bbq place ever.

Definitely dope to be out w/ all pledgebros. Pretty much everyone came out (the ones that could, Ryans in Shanghai!)

after that we went to chill over at Maks pad in Irvine and drank/smoked my brains out playing beerpong and guitar hero & smash with all the pbros and even YOHEY came thru. The night was pretty hazy, in fact I just remembered right now that Yohey came. ahahaha. Keep it real though, It was a great night! I would not have it any other way then how it went down last friday. THANK YOU GUYS!

PLUS! Sunday Night, I’m a family man, sooooo My parents took me and my brothers out for a nice family dinner. Definitely needed some family time, and it was great just catching up w/ my parents and talking and just had a great dinner.

So, just finishing up the post!
Thanks to my girlfriend, my fam and all of my pledgebros + pledge dad for celebrating my birthday with me. Definitely hands down the best birthday I’ve had. I know like all that Super Sweet Sixteen shit blows my birthdays out of the waters, but to me I really think its all about the thought, like ferreals yknow?  I hope people realize, i really do mean this ahhaa cuz if you look at my past birthday entries on my xanga…kinda

+ thanks to all the super text messages + facebook/myspace messages !!

peace out everyone!

LOOK OUT FOR 2 THOUSAND GREAT!

SPONTANEOUS FLOW

April 19, 2008

I am the king of spontaneity.

Thursday was my frats annual fraternity super bash helded at our house on frat row @ USC.  It was a joyous occasion with many female attendees.  I returned home from a day of WILDNESS at around 5AM.  Not having a phone and driving around drunk people.  I was thinking in my head, damn this is pretty nuts.  So i take a nap for the day, and wake up to get a call from my pledge bro stimpy.

This is where the story really begins!

::ring ring::
Tom : yo yo whasssup stimpy!
Stimpy :  Hey you have to say Yes to the next question i’m going to ask you okay?
(I’m thinking in my head something really bad had happened and he needed a huge favor)
Tom : Is everything okay??? wassup?
Stimpy : Lets go to vegas right now. and come back tomorrow at noon so we can get back to LA by 5PM.

Stimpys real name is Christopher Lee.  He is also one of my pledgebros from this wild and crazy class called Alpha Omicron.

Heres the story from his end.

We left around 8PM to riverside to meet up w/ Denh, and we arrived at Vegas at around 1AM.

Of course this whole time I am highly under the influence.  Super blasted, so by the time we get to vegas.  We start drinking!!

FIrst place we go to is we hit up the REVOLUTION LOUNGE, and grab some drinks and meet up w/ the homie KOZMOE who always always takes care of me when I’m out in vegas.  He used to work over at TAO, but now he’s over at the REVOLUTION LOUNGE a new spot @ the MIRAGE.  He is the Manager there and is a great host if ya’ll ever need someone to hook you up in vegas.

Around 3AM we decide to go for a late night snack and start eating anden DRINKING & GAMBLING.

From then on we decide to start gamblingggggg and finished at 8AM! NO good stories from my time at the CRAPS TABLE & THE BJ TABLE :(

You can’t see it but the guy in the stripes is blockin STIMPY.

So after all the shenanigans at OSHEAS, we walk over to PARIS TO CATCH THE LATE BREAKFAST & HOPEFULLY get there in time for the LUNCH which features SNOW CRAB & KING CRAB :)

Now the tricky thing is LUNCH BEGINS @ 11:00 AM and it is 24.99 + tax

but if you go at 10:30AM it is only 14.99+ tax.  So we saved a shitload of money by doing this.

This is Stimpy waiting for the girls to meet us up and we can eat….

as you can tel by this time we were hella tired.

As you can tell I am king of the crabs.  Everybody at the table was pretty amazed of my skills of the CRABS cracking forming into PERFECT pieces of crab meat.

anden its PEACE OUT!!!!

great 12 hours of vegasssss…

Best,

Tom D. Ngo

p.s.

For all people that are celebrating 4.20 tomorrow and are near by a computer. I will be hosting a online radio show called HANGOVER SUNDAYS @ 3PM.  MESSAGE ME IF YOU NEED THE LINK!!! I will be interviewing BANGLOOSE!

Prom Night is murderless

April 17, 2008

Murderless…is that a word?

So, for the people that know me well know that I am a big movie whore. I love movies. No matter what kind I like them. Horror, drama, romance, epic, trilogies to even crappy d list movies. So i write these half-ass rant/ crappy version reviews to get practice on writing down my thoughts on a subject that I care about. Plus, at the end of the day, I hope someone reads it and either wants to watch the movie or avoid it in general.

So I’ve decided that the majority of my Movie reviews shall consist of movies that majority of people would avoid. Why? A secret guilty pleasure of mine has always been to watch Crappy Movies. (IE: Malibus Most wanted, Never back down, Scary Movie, etc) So I figure I write it down and tell people what I think about them. (But Imma write out the reviews of the really badass movies like…IRONMAN! & SPEEDRACER)

Prom Night is one of the movies that had a huge ass marketing budget that pretty much had their movie posters plastered EVERYWHERE. It was #1 this past week in the Box Office and that just shows you how strong of a market the horror genre is. Everybody wants to be scared!

Besides being a movie whore, and having a guilty pleasure of seeking out crappyass movies to watch, I also refer to myself as a enthusiast of HORROR MOVIES. I’ve watched a good amount from classics like PSYCHO, to legends like Halloween, Nightmare on Elmstreet to old school flicks like Invasion of the BodySnatchers & the remake The Invasion. (If you don’t get my drift, I watch a lot)

So watching this movie my first thought was, dope! This director decided to go back to the basics and create this almost Michael Myers-like movie. Nope. It was cheesy to a point where I just couldn’t handle it. I’ve worked w/ some production stuff, not a lot but I mean I’ve seen the creative meetings of a couple of directors that I know on how they want their short/movie to appeal to the audience. I felt like this director couldn’t decide on how he wanted the movie to feel out. For a minute I felt like he was going for the classic old school feel of just a good murder, but there was some shots that made me think, is this gonna be a twist?? (Do you know what I’m talking about, like the part in a movie where you think the director is going somewhere with the story, maybe throwing in a twist & at the end of the movie you realize it was just going with the story line and the scenes were just extra shit.) It really bothered that there was so many scenes that was super irrelevant, and there were times when a character would talk and I was thinking “Does this person really need to say anything right now??.” I was just really disappointed. There were about 7-8 murders in this movie, and I don’t really think I’ve seen any of it. Were they really trying to stay within the PG13 rating? (I’ve never really noticed this rating thing before, but I felt disturbed that these dead bodies were JUST SHOWING UP) You never really saw the killer kill anyone except like twice? The protagonist was just walking around and finding dead bodies. (By the way, if I was a killer I would totally not just rock a fucking a POCKET KNIFE/DAGGER…-_- I would definintely have some huge type of hacksaw, or some ninja stars..or a 9 millimeter with a silencer… Get SHIT DONE.) The main cop guy, you know the guy that isn’t really the MAIN CHARACTER, but he’s the hero trying to solve this case? Yeah, that guy sucked ass. He looked like a broke version of the one Black Dude from Law & Order (Jesse L. Martin) Except he couldn’t act, they should have just got the Law & Order guy.

Brittney Snow, I feel bad for her. I feel like she felt like this was a big role for her career. She’s been stuck in the teen movie genre. I think she probably thought taking on this role could launch her career as like the next Jamie Lee Curtis (Jamie Lee did a movie called Prom Night too, I’m not sure if this was a remake) I felt like this movie made her look ugly. She looked really like NOT good at times. Also the black girl who is her sidekick/bestfriend looks like a C-Rated version of Gabrielle Union.

I’m sitting here at 530AM in the morning trying to think of PROs for this movie and to be honest, I dont think I can think of anything. I like how the movie ended. I think if the director really tried to figure out what kind of feel he was going for the movie instead of trying to make it into a murder flick then a suspense movie….then a teen movie. I sat there confused. Also EVERY SCARY MOVIE has those like “incidents” that are super CRAZY and then the main character wakes up from it, and its really a dream. This movie did this trick twice! thats fucking cheating…How are you going to use the same trick twice!. Lame
Movie Grade : D-

Musing : Tipping is another way to Make it Rain!

April 15, 2008

Recently I’ve lost my camera. :(   It’s been pretty rough to be honest.  I lost it last Thursday.  So many times, have I wanted to take a flick, and was not able to.  Hopefully I will solve this soon.  I’m planning to get a new camera on my own, hopefully the canon sd1000 which is surprisingly only 160 on AMAZON.COM! O_o nuts!  So hopefully i don’t lag about this purchase (I’m a indecisive shopper)  and I’ll have some new picture updates of my adventures.

But to the main point of this blog!  I was a bit elevated when I thought of this topic, and of course reminded myself to write it down on my SK so I would remember to write about this.

So my mind wanders when I’m lifted as do others.  It started at dinner w/ the homie DJ Stonnie of Crookyln Clan / Shanghai’s Bling night club.  Stonnie has pretty much been part of my “crew” since I’ve returned back from China.  So for his first 6 months when he moved here, he didn’t go out much since he didn’t know too many people.  After returning with me from Shanghai, I”ve been trying to be a “tourguide” and show him Hollywood & the fine dining we have in California.  So of course the dude has to make a visit to Ktown’s very famous Mannas!

So we went out there, and were joined by Debbie Vander-meuleun (I hope I spelled that right.). Debbie is veteran out at the Cannes Film Festival.  She has done a lot of social events, and what not out there.  We had a great dinner, discussing classic movies (Citizen Kane, Monty Python, Back 2 the Future!, etc) and just good music that she was surprised I listened to for someone my age (Sinatra, Bon Jovi, U2, Earth Wind & Fire, etc.).  We also talked some business and got ready to head out.

Now, Stonnie paid w/ his card, and heres the thing.  Stonnie isn’t a cheapskate or anything, so I’m definitely trying not to put him on blast., but where he comes from (Shanghai), theres no tip. I mean nothing. You pay for the BILL. and you leave. If it says 180rmbs. its 180 Rmbs. not 200.  He knows that we have to tip out here, but just not exactly how much.  So after he writes down the tip and what not, the lady comes back and says “you tip too lesss”  I was like wow, wtf did she actually come back and ask for more money! thats nuts.  I looked at the tip, it wasn’t UNREASONABLE, but i mean im sure she expected more.  So, Stonnie was so thrown off by this.

This got me thinking.

It reminded me the opening scene of Reservoir Dogs (Click to view what I’m talking about), Where Steve Buscemi argues on the etiquette of tipping.  If you’re to lazy to click on the link that I’ve provided above, to cut thing short, he believes that TIPPING shouldn’t be a automatic thing.  It should be depended on whether he believes that he got good service or not.

Why do we tip?  I mean I partially disagree with the dude, and at the same time I don’t.  I guess I really don’t understand since I’ve never been a waiter before, but I agree that sometimes tipping is not needed.  I think if a waiter has been cheerful, and been as attentive as can be, I’ll be more then glad to give him 20 percent or what not.  But at times its just ridiculous.  Mannas was a perfect example.  They came to us once, just to drop off the food, and never returned.  Why, does a huge tip matter here?  Its like going to the restroom at the club.(I don’t know if girls restroom have this.) Theres always this one bathroom attendant dude, that stands in the already SUPER CRAMPED restroom handing out towels.  Why is that guy in there for.  Are we that incompetent on getting our own towels for ourselves after we wash our hands?  I mean, cut me a break boss!  If there are other reasons why he’s in there, thats fine.  Why is it etiquette that we have to tip this dude for getting this towel of paper to wipe my hands.  Its embarrassing for the cheap mofos that have to walk out of the restroom wiping their hands on their pants ( I know some of you people do!)

Another thing that I’ve taken notice is.  Tipping definitely is a way to social standings.  My money situation has always been ups & downs.  I’ve had times where I’ve been making money comfortable where I toss down tip, like its nothing.  But I’ve had plenty of times where I’ve been broke phi broke, and tried to tip exactly the right amount.  So I’ve come to the conclusion that tippin is the BOUGIE Way of “MAKING IT RAIN”. Instead of showing off to a crowded room of people, you are making it rain classily in front of whoever you are with plus the person you’re tipping and his/her staff.
Sorry, I know this is a hot mess, and I apologize if it makes no sense.

Adventures coming soon…

p.s. this post is fucking long

So for about 2 weeks now, I’ve been hosting a online radio show called Hangover Sundays. For all you’ve that been online from 3pm-6pm on those sundays, I most likely have aimed you the link. If you guys can please tune in, it’d be dope to hear from ya’ll. :)

Now, Hangover Sundays isn’t your run of the mill internet radio show that I broadcast from my bedroom, on my computer mic. No no no. We stream from THE STREETLAB, a Streetwear store in Long Beach that DJ VIRMAN from POWEr106 owns. From 3PM to 6PM every Sunday we have DJ’s spinning dope hip hop & me talking about nonsense on air.

The reason for this post is not to promote the show.

Rants & Musings

April 3, 2008

Random Time.

Free Tshirts
I’ve always been kind of amused by peoples fascination with free t-shirts. I mean 75 percent of the time, the shirts are oddly designed, or they have so many ads & sponsor logos that you end up looking like a Nascar racer. I’m not saying I’m above it at all. In the past, I’ve been one of the million faces in a crowd throwing my hands up and making as much noise as I can, so in hopes whoever is playing pitcher w/ tshirts will throw the XL or XXL that I will definitely not fit, my way. The sad thing about this is, it’ll most definitely find a spot at the bottom of my tshirt drawer. So if any of you aspiring rappers, rockers, or singers have a tough crowd, the secret to getting them wild is…”If all else fails, free tshirts!”
Not too sure where I was going with that, just something I noticed.

Super Creepers
I’ve recently attended Hot Import Nights with FM to help man their booth (We were pretty much like a midget in the NBA. We stood out like no other, being a rap group in the midst of Super SICK ass Cars, Hot models, and not hot models.). So for about a good 2-3 hours I manned the booth while the boys went to do their sound check & perform. I did what I do best, I people watched. I have come to the conclusion that there are 5 different types of people that attend HIN. I shall list them below.
1. Car enthusiast - The only people that attend this function with the right reasons.
2. Creepers - You know who you are. The guys that attend HIN, because of all the hot models, that probably won’t give you the time of day. By the way theres nothing wrong with this, I have friends that do attend these functions to check out chicks, I just really wouldn’t pay 25 bucks to do this. (sidenote : Near my booth was Tia Kai, a model who was signing a photo & taking a picture with this guy who probably falls under this category, and he was with his girlfriend! I found this really amusing)
3.Wannabe Models – These are the girls that attend this function in hopes that some car dude or magazine editor will take notice in them and make them the next Super hot Import model.
4. Misc – Theres not many people in this category, this category is filled with people who come to watch the show (IE: The Game performed at the main stage). The little kids who are dragged their by their cousin or uncle who has a car in the show, random girl who has a boyfriend that is obsessed with hot chicas (see above), etc.
5. Super Creepers - The coup de grâce of weirdos. The reason for this rant/musing. You’ve seen these guys (mostly guys) at clubs. You know, the ONE weird old guy at the club on a friday night. Like he knows he really doesn’t belong, but he’s there anyways? Yeah, that guy. Well HIN is like a convention for them. Out of 20-30 attendees one of them is most likely a SC (Super Creeper). Kind of like this guy.
old-man.jpg
What makes them a SC? Who am I, to say that these dudes are SC? Let me break it down to you with the notes that I’ve gathered from my rigorious investigation while I sat on a box, protecting the FM shirts & merch. I’ve broken it down to one MAJOR thing. What is it? Its all in THE EYES. Yup, theres usually this glazed look in their eye as they stare at the model, while she is signing the 5th magazine that he has purchased from her. (I was with my god sis, Lisa Fleming last year at HIN and this was the first time I’ve noticed THE EYES. He pretty much spent about 100 bucks on random portraits that I could easily print on my computer, and calendars of her. While all this, looking at her with this “Imma rape you” facial expression. He stuck by her booth pretty much for a good hour just staring.) I have a lot more notes on this, but I shall cut it short, because I’m sure I’m boring you.

Random Food/Drink Rating
McDonalds new Premium Roast Ice Coffee
freeicedcoffeepage_04.jpg
1 Word, Whack. Zero stars, do not purchase. I was very disappointed. I still have this gross taste in my mouth.

Last but not least,
Since ya’ll have put up with my lengthy post, I shall leave you with a couple of links of mp3s of songs that I’ve recently downloaded and enjoyed.
Lil Wayne – Lollipop Remix featuring T-Pain
- I stumbled onto this song by accident after searching for the original. The original really grew on me, so I searched for the mp3, and I’ve fallen in love with this remix.
Ne-yo – Closer – This is supposedly Ne-yo’s next single off his third album. It grew on me really quickly.
Panic at the Disco – Pretty Odd – The girlfriend informed me how dope this album was. After a quick listen, the album is definitely has been getting a lot of plays on the itune. You can tell they were definently inspired by a lot of Simon & Garfunkel, and The Beatles. (I’d feel bad if I posted a link for the album, so message me if you want it. :P )

Best,

Tom Ngo
